Aadi Story

Day-10

A hunter in the forests of Alappuzha once found a dangerous snake which he attacked with his axe out of fear. The snake escaped and the hunter followed it. He spotted it near a snake pit and tried to attack it again but could not do so. Amazingly he saw water oozing out of the snakepit and within moments, some rice and darbha grass also appeared in front of him. It was then that a sage appeared and instructed the hunter to respectfully break the snake pit and take out the image of Vana Durga from it. The hunter did so and in due course of time a temple was constructed and regular poojas were begun. It is believed that the water of the temple pond was originally as sweet as jaggery, hence the place came to be known as Chakkarakulam, later shortened to Chakkulam. Bhagavathi readily answers the prayers of Her devotees and rushes to their aid. The Chakkulathu Kavu Pongala is very famous and will be held this year on the day of Karthikai Deepam. May Chakkulathu Kavu Bhagavathi bless all.
