Aadi Story
Day-14

Cheraman Perumal,a famous king of Kerala once wanted to establish a Bhagavathi temple at Udayanapuram and a Subrahmanya temple at present day Kumaranallur(not known by this name those days). Around that time the diamond nose ring of Madurai Meenakshi went missing and the king there ordered a search for it. He also ordered that the head priest should be executed after 41 days if the ring was not found since he believed that the ring could not have gone missing without the priest's knowledge. The night before the punishment, the priest slept at the temple's doorstep pondering his fate when he saw Devi in a dream asking him to leave immediately. He also saw a divine glow that lighted up his path. He followed the glow all the way from Madurai to Kumaranallur where the glow disappeared into the sanctum sanctorum of the temple constructed for Subrahmanya at the time of pratishtha. A voice was heard - 'Kumaran alla ooril' meaning Kumaran or Muruga is not at this place. Hence the place got the name Kumaranallur. So it happened that Bhagavathi was installed at Kumaranallur and Muruga at Udayanapuram. The image of Devi brought by Perumal was installed by a sage who disappeared immediately after the installation. It is believed that He was Parasurama Himself. May Kumaranallur Bhagavathi bless us all.
