Aadi Story
Day-18

Once a group of villagers from Chettikulangara attended a temple festival in the neighbouring village where they were badly humiliated. They resolved to construct a grand Devi temple at Chettikulangara for which they went to Kodungallur and performed bhajan for 12 days to seek Her blessings. Devi appeared in their dreams and said She would soon come to Chettikulangara. One night an old lady requested the local boatman to help her cross the river to Chettikulangara. The boatman did so and brought food after which he fell asleep. Next morning he found that she had vanished. People were convinced that Devi had reached Chettikulangara. As a reward for his help the descendants of the boatman still perform the Vedi Vazhipadu at this temple. That day when the elderly lady of a nearby Namboodiri household was serving lunch an old woman joined them. After lunch she went around to the western side of the house and vanished into thin air with a golden glow. The Namboodiri lady saw this and fainted. Astrologers were called in and it was confirmed that Devi had come to Chettikulangara. The Chettikulangara temple is the second wealthiest under the Travancore Devaswom Board next only to Sabarimala. A major portion of the rice offerings at this temple is used to make Appam and Aravana Payasam offerings at Sabarimala. This temple is located at Mavelikkara in Alappuzha district. May Chettikulangara Bhagavathi bless us all.
