Aadi Story
Day-20

The Nagabhooshani Amman temple at Nainativu, Jafffna, Sri Lanka is an ancient temple dedicated to Devi Parvati. It has been mentioned by Sri Adi Sankara in the Shakti Peetha Stotra and also finds mention in the Brahmanda Purana. It is believed to have been originally established by Lord Indra. Another legend says that many centuries later, a cobra was swimming across the sea to Nainativu with a lotus in its mouth for the worship of Bhuvaneshwari Amman, already established by Indra. An eagle spotted the cobra and tried to attack it. The cobra wound itself around a rock to save itself. A merchant passing by pleaded with the eagle to let go of the cobra. The eagle agreed on the condition that the merchant should construct a beautiful temple for Bhuvaneshwari Amman and propagate Her worship as Nagabhooshani Amman. This temple is believed to be the place where the anklets of Devi Sati fell. May Nagabhooshani Amman bless us all.
