Aadi Story

Day-26

The holy abode of Maa Chintpurni (Chhinna Mastika) is located in the Una district of Himachal Pradesh. It is regarded as a highly powerful Shakti Peetha where parts of Devi Sati's forehead are believed to have fallen. According to the Markandeya Purana, even after Devi Chandi defeated many terrible demons in battle, 2 of Her 'yogini' manifestations were thirsty for more blood. So Devi cut off Her own head to quench their thirst. Hence She came to be known as 'Chhinna Mastika' - the one with Her head cut off, Chhinna meaning cut-off & Mastika meaning head. This is symbolic, indicating Devi's power to help Her devotees detach themselves from the tangles of the material world. Maa Chintpurni resides here in a natural 'pindi'(natural rock formation) form. She is 'Chinta-purni' - one who wipes away all our worries & fulfils our sincere prayers. May Maa Chintpurni bless one and all abundantly.
