Samayapuram Mariamman is a highly powerful form of the Supreme Mother, the destroyer of disease and illness. She resides at Samayapuram, near Tiruchirapalli in Tamil Nadu. The deity here is made of sand and clay, and hence abhishekam is not done to the main deity but to a smaller stone deity in front of the main one. It is said of Samayapuram Mariamman - 'Samayathil kaappaal' , meaning She saves Her devotees on time. She is known to cure the most incurable of diseases and illnesses. Devotees make offerings of 'mavilakku' (lamps made of rice flour, jaggery and ghee, in which ghee is poured and wicks are lit), aalroopam (as in Guruvayur) & raw salt. May Samayapurathaal, the reigning queen of Samayapuram bless one and all with a happy, illness free life.
