Aadi Story

Meenakshi or the 'fish-eyed one' reigns supreme over the ancient temple city of Madurai. She emerged as a 3 yr old little girl from the sacrificial fire in answer to the prayers of the Pandya king Malayadhwaja and his queen Kanchanamala. She was trained in all kinds of arts and warfare just like a prince would have been. At the time of her coronation as the queen of Madurai she embarked on a mission of conquering the whole universe. When at last she reached Kailasa she dropped down her arms as she could not fight Lord Shiva. Shiva transformed into the handsome Lord Sundareshwara and Meenakshi was given to Him in marriage by her brother Lord Vishnu. The Madurai Meenakshi temple is one of those few that have entrances in all four directions. May Meenakshi-Sundareshwara bless us all. Om Shakti
