Aadi Story

Sri Manapulli Kavu Bhagavathi temple is situated in Palakkad district, on the Palakkad-Chittur road. Devi resides here in the form of Bhadrakali. The legend says that an asura called Neelan used to trouble the people of this area. They complained to Parasurama who in turn prayed to Lord Shiva for help. Lord Shiva asked Bhadrakali to destroy Neelan. Devi fought Neelan and destroyed him, bringing peace to the people of the region. Ever since, She has been residing here as 'Manapulli Kavu Bhagavathi'. It is said that a saintly brahmin here used to worship Bhagavathi in his kitchen which is called 'Madapillli', which in due course of time became 'Manapulli'.
