Aadi Story

Vishalakshi or 'the wide-eyed one' resides in the ancient city of Varanasi. This is a Shakti Peetha where the earrings of Sati Devi are believed to have fallen. Hence one of the most prominent river ghats here, near the Vishalakshi temple is named Manikarnika, 'Karnika' meaning 'earrings'. She is accompanied by Lord Shiva as Vishwanatha or Vishweshwara and Kala Bhairava, a fierce form of Lord Shiva who guards Varanasi. Annapurna, the goddess of food, another form of Parvati is also worshipped here.
