Aadi Story
Day-9

A 60 yr old Namboodiri from Kottayam who had no children went on a pilgrimage to Kashi. On the way he stopped at Mookambika where he was so enchanted by the beauty of the place that he stayed there for a year. Once a beautiful woman appeared in his dream and asked him to return to his village and adopt a child from the neighbouring family. The next day the Namboodiri returned to his village and stopped at Panachikkadu near Kottayam for a bath. When he came back he could not lift his umbrella. A man appeared in front of him and said that Devi Mookambika had manifested in the umbrella and must be transferred to an idol. An idol from the nearby jungle guarded by a Yakshi was brought and the power of Devi Mookambika was transferred to the idol and Devi was duly installed as Panachikkadu Saraswati. This idol is in a low lying area where the river water constantly washes Devi's feet, & the idol is almost fully covered with creepers and leaves called Saraswati leaves. May Devi Saraswati bless us all.
