Thakazhi Sri Dharma Sastha Temple

The Thakazhi Sri Dharma Sastha Temple is situated 6 kms away from Ambalapuzha at Thakazhi. Sri Dharma Sastha, the presiding deity, faces east.

The deity is believed to have been installed originally by Parasurama, the 6th incarnation of Sri Mahavishnu. Due to floods, the deity drifted away to a farm where it was found by a magician & handed over to Vilwamangalam Swamiyar (mentioned in the legends of Guruvayur, Chottanikkara & many other temples). Recognizing the powers of the deity, Vilwamangalam handed it over to a sage for installation, following which a temple was built. A special medicinal oil prepared with rare herbs found in the adjacent forests is made available here and is believed to possess miraculous curative properties.
