Part-12

Pavanapuresha series part 12: Guruvayur Parthasarathi temple.
The Guruvayur Parthasarathi temple is located opposite the Guruvayur railway station. This temple & the beautiful deity of Parthasarathi were discovered only in 1972, after the roofing of a structure nearby collapsed. A prasnam (astrological study) conducted thereafter revealed that the deity of Parthasarathi had been consecrated by Adi Sankaracharya. This is the place where Devarishi Narada had the enchanting vision of the Lord in the form of Parthasarathi - the charioteer of Partha( Partha - Arjuna & sarathi - charioteer). Narada too desired to have a vision of the Lord's cosmic form(Viswarupa) after Arjuna was blessed with it on the battlefield. He meditated on the Lord at this very spot & his desire was fulfilled. The deity holds a conch in one hand & a horse-whip in the other. The Srikovil (central shrine) is in the form of a chariot. Adi Sankara also has a small shrine here, being the founder of the temple. May the divine charioteer Parthasarathi bless one and all!
